چکیده

Abstract Background The pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella , is the most destructive pests of cotton plant in Egypt. Due to several problems insecticides, present study was conducted evaluate toxicity effect entomopathogenic fungi (EPF), Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae against different stages (Saunders) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) Results fungal isolates exhibited a toxic treated stages, egg, larva, pupa. According obtained data LC 50 B. more potent inducing than M. anisopliae. However, eggs P. were less susceptible EPF other stages. Based on total mortality, 4.97×10 11 6.03×10 12 spores/ml for egg; 8.25×10 8 9 neonate; 2.52×10 1.29×10 10 early 4th instar larvae; 6.79×10 8.36×10 pupae after treatment with respectively. Conclusions Entomopathogenic an activity mortality gossypiella.

Electromechanical microinjection of pink bollworm Pectinophora gossypiella embryos increases survival.

We report and compare methods and apparatus for injection of pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), embryos. Injection with an electromechanical device resulted in 59% survival of embryos. Previous techniques relying on a mechanical manipulator resulted in 8% survival. Pink bollworm (PBW) embryo injection technology is based in part on methods developed for injection and genetic tr...

Inactivated mariner-like elements (MLE) in pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella.

We isolated multiple copies of mariner-like element (MLE) from the pink bollworm (PBW), Pectinophora gossypiella, a key lepidopteran cotton pest. Although all the MLE sequences contain multiple mutations accumulated in their transposase coding region, the consensus sequence revealed a putative ancestral transposase encoding 339 amino acid residues with a D,D(34)D motif, and 36 bp inverted termi...

Field Longevity of a Fluorescent Protein Marker in an Engineered Strain of the Pink Bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders)

The cotton pest, pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders)), is a significant pest in most cotton-growing areas around the world. In southwestern USA and northern Mexico, pink bollworm is the target of the sterile insect technique (SIT), which relies on the mass-release of sterile pink bollworm adults to over-flood the wild population and thereby reduce it over time. Sterile moths rear...

Effects of Resistance to Bt Cotton on Diapause in the Pink Bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella

Fitness costs associated with resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) crops are expected to delay the evolution of resistance. In a previous study where pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), larvae overwintered in outdoor insectaries, individuals from Bt-resistant strains had lower survival than individuals from Bt-susceptible strains or F1 progeny from crosses b...

Preservation of viability and virulence of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae by formulation in a sesame oil invert emulsion

Using Ephestia kuehniella larvae as hosts, invert emulsion (IE) and an aqueous suspension (AS) of Beauveria bassiana (isolate IR34-JS2) and Metarhizium anisopliae (isolate IR41-TT1) formulations were compared when stored for three months at either 3 °C or 25 °C. Initially, IE formulations of isolates JS2 and TT1 were 13- and 14-fold more virulent than AS formulations, based on their LC50 values...
